Free SMS Travel alerts for regular passengers

On those rare occasions of service disruption to Light Rail, Metro would like to offer you FREE SMS alerts to alleviate waiting time and to ensure minimal interruption to your travel plans.

As an important regular traveller we have scheduled these alerts so you receive messages only at times relevant to you.To receive SMS alerts, please follow these two simple steps:

Step 1: Choose the time period you travel in most frequently and we will provide SMS updates of any service changes during this period: either ‘Weekday', ‘Weeknight', ‘WeekendDay' or ‘WeekendNight'.

Weekday - 6am to 11pm, Monday to Friday
Weeknight - 11pm to 6am, Sunday to Thursday
WeekendDay - 6am to 9pm, Saturday and Sunday
WeekendNight - 5pm to 6am (following day) Friday and Saturday.

Note: when registering for SMS alert "weekendday"and "weekendnight" must be entered as one word.

Step 2: SMS the time period,your full name, suburb and postcode* eg ‘Weekday Joe Bloggs Lilyfield 2040', to 0488 555 777

* All details are required for successful registration.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does it cost to receive travel alerts?
Nothing. Metro doesn’t charge you for providing the Service. We cover the cost.

Will I be bothered by numerous daily messages?
As we deliver a reliable service, we don’t expect that you will hear from us too frequently. Metro will only send you an update message if the delay is anticipated to be longer than 1 hour. We will then send follow up messages to let you know if replacement buses are available and when the service is running as normal.

Can I register for more than one time period?
Yes you can. You will need to send 2 or more separate text messages selecting ‘Weekday’, ‘Weeknight’, ‘WeekendDay’ or ‘WeekendNight’.

How do I stop receiving travel alerts?
You can turn travel alerts off at any time – text ‘stop’ to 0488 555 777.

How do I turn my travel alerts back on?
To turn your alerts back on… you will need to re-register. SMS the time period eg ‘weekday’, your name, suburb and postcode to 0488 555 777.

What if I don’t want to sign up but would like to know the status of the network?
If you don’t want to sign up for SMS alerts, but would like to find out the status of the network you can SMS ‘LightRail’ (one word) to 0488 555 777 any time of the night or day and you will receive an instant service update. This service costs 55 cents per message.

Note: Metro Light Rail reserves the right to not accept your request for updates or to remove your details from its database.
