Light Rail – Bringing the Tourists into Sydney
There is so much to do in Sydney when visiting that it is hard to know where to start. Sydney is the most cosmopolitan city in Australia without losing its distinct Australian flair. As a result, tourists can enjoy a wealth of activities, sights, sounds and experiences that make them feel as if they have travelled the world without ever leaving the city.
When travelling, finding reliable transportation is always a concern. When you are unfamiliar with an area, it is easy to get lost. There are plenty of people who travel regularly and still end up missing out on things they hoped to do, simply because they could not find transportation they could trust or were comfortable using.
You do not have that problem in Sydney, because Sydney has the Light Rail. The Sydney light rail takes tourists right to the main harbour district full of shops and museums and activities. The Light Rail is the newest transportation system that has been added for travelling convenience.
Entertaining Visits
When you ride the Light Rail, getting lost should be the last thing on your mind. The Light Rail is actually composed of modern trams which have a clear route that includes popular tourist destinations. You can catch the Light Rail at the Central Station and travel all the way to Chinatown. From there it is easy to access Darling Harbour and its many attractions.

The Monorail takes you on a loop around the Darling Harbour and Cockle Bay area, and connects this historical bay area with the central downtown district. You can also easily board the Light Rail system that transverses the area from Chinatown to Lilyfield.
Major Fun in a Major City
When you visit Sydney, you are visiting one of the major cities in New South Wales. This territory is rich in history, because Darling Harbour was once a major Australian port. Now completely revitalized and filled with renewed life, the Sydney Monorail can take you right to the heart of where the fun never seems to stop. There are always activities going on in this area along interesting places to visit such as Paddy’s Markets, World Square, the National Maritime Museum and Sydney’s Wildlife World.
But that still doesn’t tell you all the reasons for using the Sydney Monorail. The Monorail is sleek and futuristic and represents a blending of the Sydney past and future. The comfortable riding conditions in the Monorail make it easy for anyone to use including those with disabilities, senior citizens, large groups of people, and small children with their parents.
A Great Family Day Out on the Monorail
You can plan a great family day out on the Monorail. The Sydney Monorail is an efficient form of transportation that is easy to ride, inexpensive, and offers the height of comfort and convenience. Instead of fighting traffic and spending your valuable time looking for parking, you can pay the one daily low pass fee and spend your time having fun instead.

There you will find a variety of activities and museums the whole family will enjoy. Throughout the day you can hop on board the Monorail using your convenient daily pass and ride to the next sight. When you take advantage of the colourful Darling Harbour and Cockle Bay area activities, you are enjoying a historic area which has been carefully developed for visitor enjoyment.
From the Sea
The sea is ingrained in Australian history, so taking the family to Darling Harbour is a great way to start a day’s excursion with the family. That’s because you will find the Australian National Maritime Museum. The Museum is a must-see with its Aboriginal vessels and hand’s on exhibitions. There are even ships docked in the nearby harbour including a submarine. History comes to life when the kids can visit the replica of the ship operated by the founder of Australia – Captain James Cook.
Travelling by Monorail – Perfect for Large Groups
Travelling by Monorail is perfect for large groups for a lot of reasons. Everyone in your entourage can ride together and enjoy the many sights and stops along the route. Keeping large groups of people together on a trip to the big city of Sydney is made much simpler when you use a system like the Monorail with its modern design.
When you are travelling in a group, there’s always the problem of keeping everyone together in the same spot at the same time. Arranging transportation for a ride through the city of Sydney can be complicated when you need to keep many people together as a group. No matter how carefully you plan, when it takes multiple vehicles to transport the group, one is bound to get separated. Then what do you do? You waste a lot of time waiting for the group to re-assemble.
You can avoid this complication by riding the Sydney Monorail. The interior of the Monorail is large and spacious. Your group can ride comfortably throughout the city while getting off wherever your itinerary indicates. You can ride through Chinatown or visit the shopping district. When you’re ready to relax, there is Darling Harbour with its Australian National Maritime Museum and the Sydney Aquarium.

See the Best Restaurants Near the Monorail
It’s a fact…you can see the best restaurants near the monorail. But you need to do a lot more than see them through the window of your monorail car. You need to take advantage of the convenience of the Sydney Monorail and go on a world-wide trip without ever leaving Sydney. It’s possible because the Monorail goes through the heart of Sydney and a dining mecca.
Travelling to Parts Known
When you ride the Sydney Monorail seeking some of the best restaurants in this jewel of a city, you had better be prepared to decide what will satisfy your palette. That’s because you are about to embark on a trip to parts known for its rich variety of dining experiences.
Sydney is one of the most exciting cities to visit in the world. It’s cosmopolitan and has many European style features. One of those features is a selection of restaurants that reflects the international quality of this great city. You can literally travel the food world just by boarding the Monorail, but you are going to run into one problem…though it is a good problem.
Where are you going to get off?
It is a problem, because the variety of restaurants along the Sydney Monorail will make it difficult to choose how you want to spend your dining time. You can find food that reflects the warmth of the Adriatic Sea area. Or you can take a gastronomical trip to Italy. Perhaps you would enjoy Bavarian food or would prefer to visit the Far East.
Sydneys Monorail And Light Rail A Filming Mecca
One of the best ways to get around in Sydney, Australia is to hop on either the Monorail or the Light Rail. They both run through some of the most exciting, vibrant and most visited areas of the city, and on one stretch they run alongside each other too, providing even easier access from one system to the other.
But although millions of tourists a year use the system, there is another group of people who also find it very beneficial, and that’s film crews.
Movies of all sizes and descriptions can use the Monorail and the Light Rail as ‘sets on the move’, and many have done so in the past. But it’s not just movies – television programs can also film on the two systems, regardless of whether they are in service or not. You have the choice of filming during the day when the Monorail is in use, or during the night if you want to add in your own passengers! Of course the Light Rail is always in use so filming will usually accommodate this fact.
But why do film makers use these modes of travel to film in and around?
Firstly the location provides some great scenery to film, and from a unique viewpoint too – especially where the Monorail is concerned, situated as it is above people’s heads as they walk around Sydney. Locations such as the Sydney Tower are nearby, and if a film crew is filming any kind of story or film regarding popular parts of Sydney then a trip on the Monorail or Light Rail should form part of that, as they are a part of the whole experience.
Shopping In Sydney With The Help Of The Monorail Or Light Rail
If you are on holiday in Sydney or simply looking for a day out doing something a bit different, then you should definitely head to the main shopping centres to do a bit of shopping. Browsing around these areas is the perfect activity whatever the weather might be doing, and you can easily spend all day wandering round and collecting some great bargains as you go!
But the one problem with shopping is that it can really tire you out. While walking is certainly good for you, you might find that being able to put your feet up now and then is the best way to ensure you get to see all the best shops and you don’t need to miss any of them out.
That’s why the Sydney Monorail and Light Rail can be the best way to get around the city. The Monorail runs through such areas as the Darling Harbor and city centre, while the Light Rail can take you from Lilyfield in the west right over to Central Station and the Chinatown region in the east.
The great thing about going on a shopping trip with the help of the Monorail or Light Rail services is that you can buy a day ticket, which allows you to get on and off your chosen rail service as and when you wish. So if you have wandered through the fish markets and you want to see what the shopping centre in east Sydney has to offer, then you can simply hop on the Light Rail, change for the Monorail somewhere near the Convention Centre, and then take a ride right up to the city centre itself.
Going To The Exhibition Centre We’ve Got The Best Way To Travel
Darling Harbour in Sydney is undoubtedly a breathtaking place and an absolute must see for any tourist, regardless of whether or not they have visited the city before. The Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre is right on the waterfront, giving an outstanding view of the harbour and offering plenty of variety when it comes time to grab something to eat and simply sit back and appreciate your surroundings.
But while you will no doubt enjoy a stroll around the area to see the other sights and sounds that are on offer, you still have to find a way to get into the city in the first place, and get to Darling Harbor itself. Luckily we have the perfect solution.
In actual fact there are two solutions: one is known as Sydney’s Light Rail and the other is the Monorail. They both take in many of the city’s best locations, and they both stop right outside the Convention Centre, making them the best way to get into town to visit this area of Sydney. Once you have got off either the Light Rail or the Monorail it’s a quick hop across Darling Drive and you will be standing right outside the Convention Centre itself.
What’s more, it doesn’t matter which time of day you are visiting either. The Light Rail service runs twenty four hours a day all year round between Central and Star City, which represents the main areas of town. That means you can be strolling around the city on Christmas Day and decide to hop on the Light Rail to see the Exhibition Centre and Darling Harbour on one of the most magical days of the year!
Darling Harbour By Monorail
Darling Harbour is one of the most popular areas of Sydney, and it’s one that virtually every tourist makes a beeline for when they first arrive in the city. The Sheraton Darling Harbour provides a wonderful place to stay if you want to be right on top of the best that Sydney has to offer, but if you would rather stay elsewhere and visit the area then travelling on the Monorail is an excellent way to get right up to Darling Harbour itself.
The Darling Park stop on the Monorail system will drop you right by Darling Harbor, and everything that it has to offer to the eager tourist who is ready to explore. If you really want to get a good view of the harbour though, the best bet is to stay on the Monorail and do a complete loop – which only takes fifteen minutes anyway.
If you opt to do this you will be able to travel right out over the harbour itself, as you go round from Darling Harbour to the Harbourside stop on the other side. It’s a trip worth taking but make sure you have your camera or camcorder ready to record the whole experience!
Once you get back to Darling Harbour there is plenty to explore close by. The IMAX Theatre isn’t far away and promises a great evening out watching a movie if you’ve had enough of wandering round and would like to put your feet up instead.
