Darling Harbour By Monorail
Darling Harbour is one of the most popular areas of Sydney, and it’s one that virtually every tourist makes a beeline for when they first arrive in the city. The Sheraton Darling Harbour provides a wonderful place to stay if you want to be right on top of the best that Sydney has to offer, but if you would rather stay elsewhere and visit the area then travelling on the Monorail is an excellent way to get right up to Darling Harbour itself.
The Darling Park stop on the Monorail system will drop you right by Darling Harbor, and everything that it has to offer to the eager tourist who is ready to explore. If you really want to get a good view of the harbour though, the best bet is to stay on the Monorail and do a complete loop – which only takes fifteen minutes anyway.
If you opt to do this you will be able to travel right out over the harbour itself, as you go round from Darling Harbour to the Harbourside stop on the other side. It’s a trip worth taking but make sure you have your camera or camcorder ready to record the whole experience!
Once you get back to Darling Harbour there is plenty to explore close by. The IMAX Theatre isn’t far away and promises a great evening out watching a movie if you’ve had enough of wandering round and would like to put your feet up instead.
Darling Harbour is also renowned for being packed with sights and attractions for the eager tourist to explore. The Australian National Maritime Museum is well worth a visit, as it’s packed with exhibits and delights that will fascinate even those of you who don’t have your sea legs yet!
If you want to change modes of transport once you have hopped off the Monorail that runs round above everyone’s heads, then why not take to the water and have a go on a paddleboat in a nice secluded part of Darling Harbour? These boats are nicely shaded from the sun as they have a canopy going across the cabin, so you’ll be able to see Sydney from the water and experience a different perspective of it as well. You might even see the Monorail while you are pedalling!
If you fancy a spot of shopping after a nice relaxing lunch at one of the nearby restaurants, bars or cafes then make sure you don’t miss the Harbourside Shopping Centre, which is home to dozens of varied shops and outlets, some familiar and so not so much. Whatever you are looking for you are sure to find it here – and you are guaranteed of an eye opening time as well.
And when you have had your fill of Darling Harbour (for today at any rate!) you can head back to the Monorail stop at Darling Park and enjoy another heightened view of the harbour itself. There’s no better way to get home than by taking the Monorail.
